Must I bring my own lunch for the duration of the knife making courses?

Not at all. All your lunches, including refreshments, will be provided to you during the course. It is all included in the course fee.

What clothes should I wear when I attend the knife making courses?

Clothes which are meant for working would be the best option. 

Our knife making courses will provide you with theoretical work, but you will mainly be doing practical work. And by doing practical work, you will be getting dirty! 

Also, keep in mind you will be working with machinery, so do not wear clothes with loose parts, or they might be caught up in machinery. 

Lastly, shoes that are enclosed to protect your feet for safety reasons are essential.

Do I need any steel working or knife making experience before starting any of the knife making courses?

No, you do not. Our knife making courses are designed to be exciting for complete beginners and more experienced makers alike. Personal attention will ensure that you get the most out of the course, if you have some knowledge about knife making or no knowledge at all.

Will all the knife making material be covered in these courses?

Yes, it will, all the material will be provided to you during the course to complete your folding or fixed blade knife. No additional costs will be needed.

Do you have a set program and dates available to start a knife making course?

We can adapt our training programme to suit your diary and can even split courses over 2 or more weekends if needed.

Where can I stay?

There are a number of guest houses in Klerksdorp. If you stay at Ukarimu Guest House, then you will get preferential rates as a student on our course.

How many students are there on a course?

We usually have no more than two students per coach. If the group of students are three or four, then we bring in an assistant coach to help ensure each student get as much individual attention as they need.

Is the course practical? How much studying is involved?

The course is VERY practical. We do give you course notes. But in the workshop, we teach you step by step how to build your own knife. You might want to read the notes; but no studying is involved.

What other costs should I keep in mind?

All costs are included in the course fee. If you want to buy your first knife making machineā€¦ that would be an extra cost!
