You will learn one-on-one from your knife making coach, Andre. In a class where there are never more than 2 students for each coach. Often Andre will bring in an Assistant Coach, when needed.

You get all the hands-on learning, and all the personal training needed to make your very own knife. This is the ultimate self-care indulgence for people who have always wanted to try their hand at making their own knife!

If you want to get started in the knife-making business, we shall advise you on the best equipment to buy, and where to get it from. On the course, you will learn what consumables to use at each step in the knife making process. You can buy all the knife making equipment and supplies to set up and operate your own knife making workshop, from Andre at SA Knife Supplies.

SET UP A COURSE TO SUIT YOU

Depending on your needs from the course, and the number of attendees, you can set up a course to suit your specific needs. E.g. If you do not have a lot of time available, we can set up a condensed course. Or if you want to go further than the entry-level course, we can create a week-long extended course and take your learning much further.

After completing the basic fixed blade knife making course, you can choose to further improve your skills by taking the advanced fixed blade knife making course. Andre also offers a course for the making of folding knives.

WHERE IS THE COURSE OFFERED

The Fixed Blade knife making course takes place in Andre’s knife making workshop in Klerksdorp, over two days. The full course fee is currently R2 800 (around US$170). The course fee includes everything you need to make your own fixed blade knife and leather sheath over the two days. The course fee does not include accommodation, meals, transport, etc.

If you want to stay over in Klerksdorp while doing the course, then we recommend Ukarimu Guest House, run by Karin, Andre’s wife. Course attendees get preferential rates at the guest house.

Because we work with industrial machines, we do not take children younger than 14 on the course.

Yes, you get to take home your very own knife! In value, it is worth nearly the full course fee. And you get a certificate at the completion of the course.

WHY DO A KNIFE MAKING COURSE?

For many people, making their own knife is the ultimate experience and gift. Often a gift “from Dad, to Dad”!
Bonding experience for father and son. Or for friends to spend quality time together.
Many of Andre’s students have gone on to build knives as a hobby and as a full-time business.
It is the ultimate distraction from the daily rat race. Completely taking your mind to a place where it is just you concentrating on creating with steel.
Recently, we have seen people do the course as an alternative way to have a bachelor’s party. And it turns into a real bonding experience when family members do the course as a group.
Corporate team building events. We can organize a one-day event for up to six people.
Don’t know what gift to get the man in your life that has everything? This is it!
